To mark International Repair Day (18th October 2025), our Share and Repair Network hosted an online information session in partnership with Climate Connect (the Climate Hub for Perth & Kinross).
The session set out a picture of the challenges to repair caused by built-in-obsolescence – an issue all too familiar to volunteer fixers for repair projects.
Presenters explained how the worldwide Right to Repair campaign is calling on manufacturers and governments to address these barriers to repair. They also highlighted successes in legislation to date, and how share and repair members can get involved in the campaign.
The session included a recorded contribution from Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit and coordinator of the international Right to Repair Coalition, and presentations by Cristina Ganapini of Right to Repair Europe and Fiona Dear from the Restart Project.
Watch the online event in full here:
- Why we need a Right to Repair (Jane Owens): 03:17 – 09:12
- Global view from the USA (Kyle Wiens): 09:16 – 16:36
- What’s happening in Europe (Cristina Ganapini): 18:50 – 34:00
- The situation in Scotland (Jane): 43:54 – 46:00

A Q&A allowed attendees to deepen their understanding of the complexities of the legislative processes involved in the campaign.
“This was an informative session giving an understanding of the US, EU, UK ‘right to repair’ campaigns, positions regarding legislation and opportunities/priorities for local action.”
