Circular Communities Scotland was recently contacted by Fyne Futures, a long-standing and respected member of our network, to inform us that their parent company, Fyne Homes Ltd, had made the decision to close Fyne Futures and all of the circular projects it delivers on the Isle of Bute.

Circular Communities Scotland was surprised and disappointed to hear this news. In this regard we have written an open letter to the management committee of Fyne Homes Ltd that shows our concern with this decision and to offer our assistance in any way we can to support Fyne Futures to continue it’s valuable circular work.

Read our open letter to Fyne Futures.

“For many years Fyne Futures has been a valuable member of Circular Communities Scotland – the national network for all things reuse, repair, recycling and the circular economy.

Fyne Futures projects have consistently delivered great work around the circular economy, from furniture to bikes, from food to local growing projects. The work delivered by their valued team of staff and volunteers, has supported people, planet and place.

Circular Communities Scotland was surprised and disappointed to hear of Fyne Homes Ltd.’s decision to close its subsidiary Fyne Futures. Not least for the staff and volunteer team but also the wider impact for the whole island on losing such a respected and valued community anchor organisation.

At a time when Scotland is moving to be more circular, and with the third sector being a valuable partner in this work, this is a significant backward step for the Isle of Bute.

It should not be forgotten that 10 years ago the Isle of Bute was recognised as “Scotland’s Zero Waste Island” by a Zero Waste Scotland campaign that invested significant resources in recycling and waste reduction projects through Fyne Futures.

Circular Communities Scotland believes that the core circular projects of Fyne Futures are still viable and more important than ever. To that end we implore all parties to come together and work towards a solution that would see the valuable circular work of Fyne Futures to continue to be delivered for the whole community.

At Circular Communities Scotland we are available to support the work of Fyne Futures going forward. If I can be of any assistance to this end please do get in touch.”
